: Whats the size of your fiberglass free kayak?

: What thickness did you use in each layer?

3/16" ... thicker than needed

: What was the weight?

40 lbs.

: Did you actually save anything in time if you had to epoxy on the
: last layer of strips?

I'm not sure if any time or weight was saved, but these weren't my goals. The goal was to eliminate
the use of fiberglass.

Brush on a narrow long area of epoxy over layer one, and staple layer 2 over this area and repeat the process till done.
Layup is pretty quick with no stopping. Gaps between strips are filled with final brushed epoxy coats. Some limited amount
of filler was used between layer 2 strips only.

: What did you like best about this method?

No fiberglass :)

Next time ... thinner strips ( 2 layers X 1/8"). I plan to use more dense spruce or pine on football of layer two with
more dramatic overlapping technique of strips at keel to bilge. I may also laminate with a non epoxy glue to save a few bucks
while using the epoxy on final coating.

Then again, I may blow the whole thing off and go straight to cold moulding (veneer), or a combination of strip and veneer.
