: Hello all,
: Has anyone used Obeche wood? Supposedly it is 24 lbs/ft3, and has a
: nice yellowy hue. Seems like it would be a good alternative for
: Yellow Cedar. From what I hear it is very workable although the
: grain can be variable. Anyone have any input on it?
: Thanks,

Hello Malcolm,
I have done a little work with Obeche. I am concidering building a canoe out of it, with Spanish Cedar and Mahogany accents
It machines, glues, planes and sands very well. It is a golden straw color and the grain looks like Mahogany, with all the color bleached out of it. The weight is about the same as Northern White Cedar. Where I get it here in Michigan the price is less than half that of Yellow Cedar.
I hope this helps,
Donovan
