I would practice self rescue and leave the fins at home. Take along a roll of duck tape to fix the boat incase a whale lands on you. Also handy if a hatch cover gets lost or a fin box starts leaking etc. Duck tape is also handy for binding the jaws of a great white if it gets too friendly.

The fins could be handy for a bit of snorkelling though, if you paddle in warm waters.
