I bought some of the automotive pinstripes and applied them to a test strip. Seems I remember you can lightly sand these with 600 grit, but I only had 800. I sanded half of the test strip and left the other half as is. I layed one layer of 3.25 oz cloth with some old west 207- the older yellow kind.
It worked perfect. The glass stuck to the sanded and unsanded portions. I will sand just to be safe. It looks great under the glass. Very professional look and the gold stripes I chose look great on the douglas fir.
I do plan to use a precoat of epoxy to fill the grain. These pinstripes are so thin that they conform to the tiniest bit of woodgrain. I think a precoat will make application go better.
