Strip: Epoxy

I have fibreglassed the hull of my Expedition Sport, added an abrasion patch and 2 fill coats. The initial glassing didn't go as well as planned, the garage temperature cooled and by the time I squeegied one section of the cloth the epoxy was too thick to to bring the cloth in close contact with the strips. The result is that there are some slight waves in the cloth, and after some sanding I am beginning to sand into the cloth in the high parts of the abrasion patch.

I want to avoid too much weight through a thick epoxy layer, the question is, am I better continuing to sand into the high spots of the abrasion layer to establish an even surface and then give another fill coat, or do I stop sanding now and fill the low spots with resin and accept that I'm stuck with extra epoxy (and weight) due to my earlier stupidity?

I would be grateful for some advice here

With thanks,

Allan.
