Ideally one would design and then print the actul stem/sterns and frame/stringer connectors. I'm envisioning maybe 20 or 30 printed components per boat, weighing less than 2 lbs total and costing about $40 in plastic filament. 3/8 fiberglass tree stakes would be cut to size for each frame and stringer, and these would be epoxied and/or snapped into the printed components. About a dozen 8ft sakes would be needed for a 12 ft partially decked solo canoe, weighing about 6 lbs total and costing about $30. This approach moves much of the work to the design process, with the actual build process becoming more of an assembly task.
