I have built 10 kayaks but this was my first rudder installation or retrofit. Of course, the raked stern and upsweeping sheer line of my Point Bennett complicates things a bit. There were a lot of decisions to make. For this particular rudder, a pin mounted Feathercraft, I went for the step down recess. The job was a lot more work than I thought, but it works nicely.
