I don't see the point in spending the trouble to build a rec boat. Costco and Dick's Sporting goods sell them cheaper than you could build one. There aren't many boats that perform as well as a Sea Ranger at any price, though. Maybe I'm missing something, which is very likely since I've never paddled a rec boat. Is performance an issue with a rec boat? Aren't they mostly for floating? I'm sure that a rec boat would be really stable the first 5 times you paddled one, but a Sea Ranger would likely only be tippy the first 5 times you paddled it.
