You're correct. It is flat-grained sapele. I took one board about 8" wide and resawed it on the bandsaw (ie flat planks 3/16" thick x 8" wide). Two pieces made the fore deck, the other two, the aft, hence double-book-matched. To make the flat planks fit the contours of the deck I sawed it into strips between 3/4" to 1-1/2" wide.

The bungee fittings are vacuum-formed carbon fiber rectangular cups with stainless steel pins. I make them in-house for our boats and for home builders.
