I started with a nominal 2 x 6 x 20' (thickness was actually around 1 5/8") cedar board, cut it into 1 5/8" x 1/4" strips. I then ripped the 1 5/8 strips into approx 3/4" wide strips. I keep the two 3/4" strips from the same 1 5/8" strip next to each other as if I were piecing the original 1 5/8" strip back together. So two 3/4" strips go next to one another on the first side and their bookmatched counterparts go next to one another on the other side.

As if that weren't enough, I put the next pair of 3/4" strips on the first side as if I were bookmatching them with the previous two strips. To see that effect, you have to look pretty close and have me standing over your shoulder pointing it out.
