Well I can see the decision to leave port, as a ship is safer offshore- especially one that large, but they could have and should have (in my opinion) headed to Bermuda where they would have been safe, and even if the storm were to make an unexpected turn they would have been able to dodge it from Bermuda, and Bermuda has a very nice safe harbor that is well-protected even if they got caught there. It all appears to boil down to they wanted to get to Florida because they had an event scheduled there. That is the only reason I can possibly see to go there and not Bermuda.

Anyway, I know Cap'n Robin had loads of experience-far more than I- and was a well-respected sailor. I am sure he thought he could make it and wouldn't have taken the chance if he didn't. I know he was trying to get on the navigable side of the storm, but I just can't imagine why not go to Bermuda. I think we can all learn that no matter how good you are and how knowledgeable you are you are always at the mercy of your last decision. I am hopeful they find him and sorrowful for the crewmember that was lost.
