: I'm about to order some KajakSport hatches . . .
: What are your opinions on the aesthetics of having equal-sized
: hatches both fore and aft verses smaller one up front?
While a unifying similar beam (& end distance)/hatch proportion would denote a smaller hatch forward, an additional prejudice is that aesthetics and plastic can lids don’t belong in the same sentence for aesthetic boats.
But from your last post, other expediencies overcome both of those considerations. Not trying to be impertinent, but your sole question was about aesthetics. . . .
Cost, ease of build, expediency are all valid 'build' concerns.

While my personal prejudice is against that of black plastic 'sewer tank' lids on kayaks (heh heh), a valid alternate consideration is that of contrast and pattern that anonymous black voids make along with the typically blackskirted cockpit opening. In that case, geometric proportioning, minimal peripheral ditching and careful cross sectional and longitudinal presentation (ie coordination with lines and surface) will help to support that consideration.
