Great minds think alike! I was considering a similar method to your hatch lid system on the build I am doing now. I am glad to see it works.
As for the lash points, I use surfboard leash plugs, and then tie line through those the same way you have your line. It just makes the line replaceable, but serves the same purpose. The leash plugs are too small for bungee cords to go through them, but if you tie a line first, then run the bungee through the lines, it works well. I use a couple of vented plugs (has a goretex vent built in) to keep the pressure equal in the compartment as well.
