Rob, your view, among others, is making this a consensus. What I STILL don't get, is how this squares with the 2 photos I've shown (after the problem post / photo), that show the initial glasswork as being what I considered to be ideal. And / or, getting to the seal coat that I did, and then followed up a day or two later with glass... you're saying the glass application layer did not bond (fully?) with the seal coat?
: it definitely looks like resin starvation to me.
: I agree.
: I started the seal coat idea, to ensure a transparent lay-up on the
: hull and deck exterior.
: I don't use a seal coat when glassing the interior deck and hull of
: my boats.
: Glassing in at least 80˚ temperatures, using slow hardeners, small
: batches, and a roller
: give the very thin resin, on the warm wood and glass, the ability
: to totally displace
: all the air surrounding every glass fiber. Using a SOFT squeegee to
: remove excess resin
: won't compress the glass so hard that it bounces back and is resin
: starved.
: If you glassed at lower temperatures with a medium hardener and
: used a stiff squeegee
: I would expect to see the slightly resin starved look of the glass
: you've shown.
: It's not a structural problem but I'd suggest another coat of epoxy
: to seal the hull surfaces from
: further water and dirt intrusion which will break down the glass in
: years to come.
: Without one seal coat, the glass will turn whiter and dirtier over
: time with exposure to the elements.
: Ask me how I know?
: Been there.
: Rob
