I'm pretty familiar with white cedar, as I strip planked (strips were 1.5" square) a 30 foot boat with it.
It's lovely wood to work with.
It is not as brittle as most WRC, in my experience, though that may be because my white cedar was air-dried (not kiln dried).
I think it is a bit less dense than WRC, so you can always make the pieces a bit thicker if you are concerned about strength (I wouldn't be.)
The sap wood can be a bit spongy, so you sometimes need to use the outermost part of the log for firewood.
I'd cut out knots and scarf the good bits together with epoxy if available - most of the logs I used produced planks that had a few knots.
