: The cross-section is a sort of design-disaster that only seems to
: serve one purpose: it's adjustable for fiddling the dimensions.
: I left the 'drawings' and I'm on my own devices from here. A
: nice option appears: I can pull the dimensions out from the
: perfect and beautiful lines that are drawn by the stringers ..
Hi all,
I started out dimensioned with a length of 5+m and a cross-section copied from one of the SeaRangers. That suffices to assemble the overall shape of the boat, and it's stunning.
It would be the right time to dimension the central cross-section to my 'private' dimensions: My hip + some size depending on how stable I want it to be. Are there any 'rule-of-thumb' to use here?
As for the coaming .. I've got too little experience as to what first principle to dimension it from. As far as I can tell, there are one straightforward way of thinking on how to mount the boat: Step in, bend your legs tight and sit down, straighten your legs into place. That could be a tall order on a narrow coaming ..
Another principle could be to: Step in, take a strong grip in the coaming, lift yourself with straight legs into place.
Which one should I use for a 'sporty, reasonably fast' boat with some minimal design for taking a lean-back to roll .. or, are my estimate of principles off?
If I am to lift myself into place, it will be necessary to support the coaming at the center above and on the keel. On the 'just sit' principle I could probably make the cross-sections and coaming strong enough without the additional support. I'm worried that the support-beam could impede some movements later on, but that's pure speculation ..
any comments?
