I used a fixed skeg (about 30 cms long, maybe a cm deep) last summer - definitely stopped weathercocking but I did lose maneuverability. For this summer I've stripped the boat (S&G NH) to put on lighter fiberglass on the exterior and I've just got a new kajaksport skeg from Newfound Woodworks - http://www.newfound.com/kayakacc.htm . I'm in NZ but the shipping was only a couple of weeks (if that).
