: Bohdan, look forward to feed back regarding the kajaksport skegs
: performance and ease of retrofitting.
: Cheers
I installed the Kajak Sport in my Gully L last year. I was getting impatient to get on the water so to save time I bought the Kajak Sport skeg with a control box. The only issue I had was the tension of the skeg in the box was too tight to lower. So, I had to filed/sanded down the retention ridges until I got a smooth skeg. (This was not in the instructions). It works great now. As of performance, it only takes dropping the skeg down an inch or so to really improve tracking. I cannot tell of any lost speed performance. Last year I got caught in between two islands that was funneling the wind to 20 plus mile/hour plus I had a tide pulling the opposite direction. In this situation I had to lower the skeg almost all the down to make the crossing. Literally I could not make any forward progress with my skeg up.. I experimented with it at the time. I installed my skeg before Etienne shared his plans, which I think are great instructions. If you buy a Kajak skeg, just follow Etienne plans for cutting the slot and mounting the skeg. One more thing, with the Kajak skeg it only takes about three minutes to remove the contol box screws and pop out the skeg for cleaning or lubing. When reinstalling the skeg blade make sure you adjust the cable set screw to limit the full drop so the skeg does not pop off the skeg post. Good Luck!
