I guess weight is a big issue with strips only 1/8", but you could consider reinforcing the hatch areas with extra pieces of glass inside? I always put a second piece of glass under the full where hatches will be cut to prevent any warpage. I also have a cross brace of hardwood to which the bungies are attached to, so it is very unlikely that the cover will warp.
