Rare earth magnets are clutter free both on both the deck and in the hatch. I don't have pics handy of the build I did with them but if you search rare earth magnets you find threads. Many people complain that the force needed to compress the gasket requires too many magnets. I got around this by using a thin and narrow gasket material. I think I settled on 1/8" thick closed cell weather seal foam that I trimmed down to 1/4" wide. Nice seal, secure fit, completely clutter-free.
