Strip: Stern Strips On Outer Island

I'll be ready to install the keel strips. The bow seems to be no problem, but the stern seems to require an extreme bend. I ripped some 3/16 thick strips. Red cedar, pine, and cypress all snapped at the bend. I also tried Yellow cedar, and while it seems like it will make the bend without snapping, it takes an AWFUL lot of tension. Any suggestions on how to pre-bend the wood?
