Actually, aside from shipping to Michigan, I should have asked something else - do wood boats of this type actually have fiberglass over the wood? I didn't think my boat had any fiberglass, aside from the patch on the bottom from when it fell off my van and cracked years ago. I thought it's just wood with paint on the bottom and varnish on the top.

Would it be typical for there to be a layer of fiberglass under the varnish or paint, which isn't visible? People who look at my boat often seem to assume that actually it's fiberglass, but I don't understand why. The man who offered to refinish it here (whose name is George Hoskins, now I'll use his name!) tried to convince me that the hull was glass, until he looked inside and saw that of course it's wood.

George also talked about using resin rather than varnish on the deck. What is the difference, and would that make sense?

As you can see, I don't know anything about boat building! And unless things change a lot, I'm not likely to become a boat builder. But I would like to know enough to ensure that (1) my boat isn't going to get seriously damaged by further use, and (2) my boat isn't going to get damaged by over-zealous crafts people trying to repair it in the wrong way for this particular boat.
