Nick, the mold that you have heard about is used to hold the panels during the bonding process. The plywood panels in BBK boats do not actually touch each other and they have developed a method for filling the gaps at the panel edges with an epoxy/fiberglass mixture. It's also the reason why their hulls are painted up over the gunwales, to conceal the joints. Their claim is that this is a more durable construction method than traditional stitch and glue.

After the boats are glassed, the hull is painted with Awlgrip.
