At $100 a mixed gallon I wouldn't exactly call Super Sap a "cheap" epoxy. It's a well-respected bio-based resin that is used by numerous composite manufactures (mostly surfboards, longboards and snowbaords. Check out their partners page). I also use it exclusively in my own commercial shop. It has very little odor, wets out tight weave cloth beautifully, it's easy to work with and is bio-based. Nice stuff.
Sorry, was not my intent to dis your epoxy. As I said, I'm not familiar with that brand. Sometimes I respond to specific posts with more general information because I know there are many others reading this. Many epoxy manufacturers have a variety of resin/hardener combinations, for specific purposes, at varying prices. Many epoxies are not intended for transparent use.
What I said was, IF price is your first choice, you may loose out on the features you hope for.
I do feel more confident in purchasing an epoxy designed and used for marine applications.
The first "Fill Coat" applied to the fiberglass surface is the most prone to creating bubbles. The newly wet-out fiberglass has a stiff and very rough surface. Any resin application method or "tipping off" of the surface that drags the tool over the surface will produce bubbles. I use a roller for resin application which does not drag across the rough glass. I do tip off any remaining bubbles with a dry 4" foam brush touching the surface very lightly, so I'm not creating more bubbles than I'm breaking.
Perhaps the bubbles problem Jack experienced was one created by the application and not the resin.
There are a great deal of variables that can effect your results. I reduce them for consistant results.
