Neither is fool-proof, either with or without staples. Many people tolerate poor fit because they don't know it can be perfect, even on your first try. You will need to hold the strips together between forms to be successful. Don't assume they'll just pop right in there if you hook them every foot.

I'm sure everyone will give you all of that knowledge in one form or another.

Here's what I'm going to say: If you are careful and do it right, bead and cove will be stronger because there is more glue surface area because of the curve. If you do cove-up, you can take advantages of the gap-filling properties of glue to give you a hand if you're not 100% perfect.

That said- cedar is kinda weak. The glue bond of a properly-done joint is stronger than the surrounding wood, but with cedar that doesn't mean a ton because it breaks easily.

It's up to you.
