To state the obvious ...if ... for each cut ... you start with a straight edge and keep the fence against the plank you'll get a uniform cut for the full length of the strip ... if ya don't ... ya don't.

The problem is that as you cut strips often the plank can begin to warp and leave you with a convex or a concave edge.

My hunch is that the plank warped and created a concave edge ... and in the center of the cut ... the fence only touched the plank at the front and back edge of the fence ... thereby creating a thin cut. That's one reason we use feather boards on tablesaws.
