Now the question is how thin is too thin to use on a Spring Run? My goal was 3/16 strips, and that is what they are at the ends. The worst are 1/8. I know for race boats builders will use 1/8" strips and some of mine are close to that. If it is too thin I will cut them apart and scarf the good parts. If I don't have enough wood when the weather permits I can cut some more.

My advice is to use the 1/8" sections for epoxy stir sticks, shims or kindling. 3/16 strips are pretty thin already. Don't forget that you will be sanding before you glass, losing some thickness in that step as well.

The thinner the wood strip, the less stiff it is. A 1/8 strip is less than 1/3 as stiff as a 3/16 strip (stiffness varies with the cube of the thickness).
And, the spacing (ie strip thickness) between the glass layers is what makes the whole system 'work'. Just laminate together a couple of pieces of 6 oz cloth and see how flexible it is.

You really don't want to be wondering about the deck strength when you pull another boat (with water inside) across your deck in a rescue.
