Thor,
There are multiple methods of getting the strips to stay on the forms while not using staples. I did a combination.. At the shearline I only used hot glue and staples to hold the shearline strips in perfect alignment. I used dark strips at the shearline to hide the staple holes. The rest of the kayak I used the stapless method of U plywood plates with springs clamps to hold the strips next to the stations. I did not have to use hot glue. I would use Titebond III wood glue in the coves and clamp the strips to the stations. Also, I used a 2 inch long 1/4 in dow stock with blue masking tape to pull the strips together in between the stations, and more as needed at the bow/stern. I started by laying a strip on each side in the morning and two more in the afternoon. You need 4 hours at least for the wood glue to setup. (Took me about 80 days to strip the hull and deck using this techinque; I know its slow!) If you have a lot of vertical bow curvation with short radius hull curvation (compound curves) you will need to break out the heat gun and shape the strips in place before you glue them. You need to be postive that the clamp plates hold the strips to the stations especially at the bow and stern. (There are a couple of horror stories on this forum about strips pulling away from the bow/stern stations after the glue as setup.) I would look up into the hull from the floor to make sure. I found out in trying to shape some stuborn strips I used staples , they would still pull away from the stations. This where I determined the stapless approach is slower, but you do not have to worry about a staple poping out after a glue up session. Nick has some videos on YouTube/Guillemot website on how to do stapless and the techniques on using the heat gun. Also, I went out and bought 2 inch clamps and cut down some my U plywood clamp plates to fit the narrow areas of the bow and stern. Hopefully this helps you out.

I used two inch wide scotch tape on the stations. I didn't have any problems breaking the stations from the hull/deck. The scotch tape does like to stick to the particle board, so I used additional tape on the sides stations to hold the scotch tape on the edges of the stations.
