In the past when I was aligning the hull to the deck for the purpose of joining the two together I would use a cake knife to slide between the sheer to pry a stubborn edge outward. The knife has a long thin flexible blade.
The blade is less likely to damage the edge than a putty knife. This was the right tool for me.
A few weeks ago it was time to remove the hull and deck from the forms on a internal strong back. In places to much hot glue had been applied for the form to break loose easily. This was particularly true on the bow and stem forms on the extensions past the beam. These forms are the ones that have to be pried up instead of breaking them off with a sharp blow from the side. When the form breaks free it always is accompanied by a sharp cracking sound. At this point I run to the end and breathe a sigh of relief because the strips did not crack. To alleviate the problem I heated the blade of the cake knife and slipped it between the strips and form and gently pushed it around the form melting the hot glue as it progressed along. It worked , and the forms released easily without tear out of the soft cedar. Hope this can help someone. rh
