Hello John,
Thanks for the positive remark. The "flame" details are the newest iteration of Nick's "puzzle boat" series. They are cut by CLC and fitted together in the first stage of construction. I stained the pieces the day before.
I actually bought a floatation for the bow (which turned out to be way too big). I've now elected to try to reshape the forward bulkhead to conform to the contours as-built and schmutz and glass it from the aftward side only. The problem of establishing a port to drain condensation (hull leakage?) and equalize pressure is yet to be solved. I'm not able to use pedals so I'm gluing in a couple of blocks to give counter-pressure to my heels.
For deck rigging anchors I'll likely do what Nick does - fold short segments of webbing onto themselves, burn a hole thru the middle and screw it onto the deck.
For those who may have an interest in taking on a Petrel Play build, the kits have been available at CLC, since early January. I elected the option of no recessed hatches to cut down a little on weight. (Turns out not having the forward hatch has made the building a little harder.) For me, it is purely day boat for surfing the points and tidal races, so storage is a minimal need.
Carl
