I get excellent results cutting scarfs on a bench disk sander, fast and accurate. The only problem is limitation on thickness and width because it is small, barely handles 1:8 on 1/4 x 3/4 strips, but it was on sale - what can a fella do if he's cheap?
I discovered the hard way what happens if I don't have the table leveled and provide a solid fence the same height as the strip width. That sort of thing keeps happening to me because I have SLS (slow learner syndrome).
The fence supplied was useless and the table bottom is irregular which makes clamping virtually impossible; my drill press had the same problem but it was easy to fill out the bottom of the table with a piece of wood, but the table on the sander has all these ribs. Same problem with my router table. Do the manufacturers ever try out their products? In both cases I found the easiest solution was a well-placed tapped hole or two . . .
