I don't think there are any specialized deck-stripping patterns. Most people try patterns out on paper or use a drawing program. I like GIMP. It's quite powerful, like Photoshop but free. To help the visualizations I imported in different woods, carbon fiber or paint chips in as patterns.

Usually I work off the plan sheet (some are painted):
On the "Nereida" Njord project I took a picture of a Njord...
... and recolored it a few times.
