I discovered by accident on building a jewelry box that I could get a silky satin smooth finish. I have used the minwax regular satin or high gloss, and I can still get a better finish with the wipe on poiy. My guess is because you are putting on ( or controlling) smaller quantities of poly resin with more solvent, and sanding in between coats.

Whatever the reason, I was looking for a finish on a jewelry box that was soft to the touch with a semi gloss finish..
The drawback is you have to appiy more coats..
