I'd use poster board to make a pattern for the glass, then you'd know ahead of time that it fits correctly, that and lots of tape to fix the screw ups in cutting the board makes nice patterns.

Another good idea, I can use the outside profile as a starting point. I think the (one of) real challenge is getting the "indexing" or size of the pre-cut glass correct over the whole length of the boat, bow to stern. The other issue that is of concern is the significant recurve will prevent running any surplus material (never mind coming up short), that may develop from working from the center out, off an edge in what is effectively a one foot long/deep pocket at each end.
Ah well, time to stop moaning and get on with it.
