I live in the heart of Western Red Cedar forests and I still need to look for quality boards. I have multiple sources nearby, within 10 miles of home but I never know who will have the right stuff.
I do find some great deals, I currently have some 2x6x10'clear cedar with strait grain for strips that I paid 5 bucks a bf for. It can get real expensive or much cheaper. I purchase some 2x8x18' boards last year for $3.99 a bf.
I have a lot to choose from and lots of colors but finding the deals and quality at the same time takes some searching. I usually buy enough to do several boats and when I do find the good stuff I leave tons of it at the mill.
I should just commit a truckload, mill strips for a week and have enought to make a hundred boats!
