Sassafrass is plentiful and cheap in NW Ohio. You will likely have to scarf, but we only get clear stuff. It's the same weight as Sitka Spruce, much more rot resistant and much harder, but not quite as stiff, so don't skimp on thickness. It's nice to work with and extremely fragrant. It's nice-as long as you don't find it irritating.
