Whole lot cheaper, for small jobs I used to buy 5 gallon pails of polyester resin for lots less than a gallon of epoxy without the hardener.

Was going to mention that those foams used for polyester resin, while a heck of alot more expensive than styrofoam, divinycell etc. normally carve much more nicely than trying to use styrofoam, so if someone was to use this method for smaller more complicated molds those foams are much nicer to use.
