I do it in my garage since I don't want the fumes in my house. I wet the floor, use a fresh sponge brush, don't move anything in the garage until the varnish is hard on the surface. Here's the important part - I don't worry about it any more after that. For me, drips and dry spots are what I am most concerned with. I sometimes polish the boat a month later and that makes an enormous difference. I just use any liquid automotive polish and an electric buffer - just the deck and other areas that are quite visible like the bow and stern.
