When I took my NWS Spotter training course last spring they showed us photos of a hail storm in 2002 where the hail reached baseball size+ just 6 miles from my house. The wind was very strong as well, and hailstones were blown completely through the walls of houses, through the insulation, and through the drywall on the inside. They went all the way through the roofs and landed in the attics. Luckily at our place we only had dime-size hail.
