Some recent posts have mentioned installing sheer clamps instead of the dreaded inside taping of the sheer. I have just one more strip left to complete the hull of an Outer Island, so this may be a poor time to consider this, but I didn't at all enjoy the inside taping when I build a pair of S&Gs a few years ago. Since it is too late for me to notch the building forms to allow for sheer clamps (at least for the hull portion) is the sheer clamp method still a viable option?

There's a big difference in using a sheer clamp for a design where the deck meets the hull at a fairly sharp angle (like the Black Pearl or the boat in Etienne's pictures) vs a boat like the Outer Island which is much more 'curvy'. I've built an Outer Island without a sheer clamp (using Jay's instructions & method) and also a 'Brit-style' boat with a sheer clamp. It is definitely easier without a sheer clamp for this style of boat, IME.

Your S&G project may have been a better candidate for a sheer clamp, but for the OI I'd recommend taping in the standard way.
