Thanks for the suggestions. I tried a few things, but Nick's suggestion actually worked the best. I used a piece of roof flashing. I found that I could pull on it with one hand, and apply the tape with the other. I got the parts to match within 1/16", and since my deck isn't glassed yet, I think I can trim for a good fit.
