I wanted a kayak I could more easily do rolls in, it would be nice if it could do comfortable light day trips (4-8 mile paddles). I had a few rolling lessons in the last 2 weeks and can kinda do them in my Impex Sea Breeze(14' long, 22" wide), but the rear deck along with my pfd make it difficult for me to lay back as far as I could...that and I have to lift my butt of the seat everytime....I got to try an instructor's kayak - a wood strip 17' with a 19.75" beam and 5-6" rear deck - much easier to roll and nice to paddle :-) I plan on lots of wet exits with this kayak - hence the choosing the LC model (that and its the same coaming size as my Sea Breeze so I can use the same skirt :-) ) Perhaps it would be better I go with the Sea Rider and lower the rear deck to be the same as the Sea Rover? I am around 5'6", around 170lbs.

Thanks for the heads up about the band saw and cutting stringers...I'll look into getting a guide for my circular saw

For the coaming lip - plain 1/4" plywood would be ok as long as I put on 2-3 coats of epoxy on it? For that matter, regular plywood would be ok for the cross sections as long as I were to do 2-3 coats of epoxy on them as well?
