Bill's right, the skill (circular) saw is the best of your tools for long straight cuts like stringers and gunnels. Provided it is in good shape with no wear in the bearings and a decent blade, of course.

The trick to getting a clean cut is a zero-clearance baseplate. Just attach a piece of ply, 1/4 to 3/8 is OK, to the steel baseplate and set the blade accurately at right angles with a square - don't trust the scale. Then with the motor running lower the blade into the ply to create a slot the width of the blade.

Attach a perfectly straight guide to the baseplate, about 3x the length of the baseplate, to ensure he blade stays lined up with the cut direction throughout the entire cut. Plane a clean edge on the plank for the first strip.
