Thanks to everyone who commented on this refinishing project. It is now on its 4th coat of varnish and looking good. I followed good advice and kept it simple S. I removed the glass and epoxy from the outside of the hull and stripped off all the varnish. Removed a couple pounds of powdered filler that was basically useless and then sanded by hand to preserve the copper clinch tacks and brass screws. I did not try to bleach out any of the stains from the wood, choosing instead to let the boat tell its own story. It is OLD. Looking good and with 3 new seats and all the original brass it will be ready for the water in about 1 more week.
I need to find a couple of oars before I do any rowing and it wouldn't be right to put my kayak paddles in it.
