I got my Baltic Birch plywood from Home Hardware (Ontario, Canada) but that was about 6 years ago. I did a Google search and I found lots of Canadian sources for it but no US sources. I didn't spend a lot of time on the search but I got several "birch plywood" returns that are probably birch on the outer veneers. Prices vary wildly, again a possible sign of different sources. The real thing will likely carry a stamp somewhere - probably in the corner of the original 5 x 5 sheet - with Cyrillic characters in it.

Having said all that, I personally would be reluctant to use plywood for frames that are going to have a lot of their area cut from the center. It's more expensive, heavier and - used in that way - weaker, and there will be a lot of waste compared with a built-up lumber frame. I don't understand the attraction of ply in this context . . .
