ddaniels shows a good way to do it. Of course you haven't really said what your using. But nylon 'pull' straps will not break, so it is just a matter of making sure them are properly attached to the rack and tight. I used rope for years but straps are easier.

Bow lines are really important because there is where the wind has leverage. If you tie off the bow end properly they will not blow sideways. They move a little but that is all.

If you show what you doing now it would really help to know how to improve on what you have.
