Modern cars often have nothing to which you can conveniently and securely attach the bow ropes.

There is an easy, effective solution. Lift the bonnet (or hood if you are in the USA). If the mudguard (fender) is bolted on, remove the front bolt. Double a length of nylon tape over to form a loop and melt a hole through big enough to fit over the bolt. The loop needs to be long enough to sit an inch or so above the bonnet. Replace the bolt with the loop attached.

When the kayak is on the car, the loop provides a secure attachment point in a convenient location. When the kayak isn't on the car, the loops fold down out of sight.

I've been using that system for a few years now, ever since I saw the idea, possibly on this forum.
