At least this is better than the boat design thief's normal trick for fiberglass boats, use an existing hull as a plug for a mold, even has it's own name "splashing" a hull.

To fix it and it's been done, takes an expensive court case with questionable results, most of those that will steal a design don't have much money, which is why they steal in the first place.
