While I agree that it's good to learn all kinds of rescue and recovery techniques, I'm not sure I agree that the cowboy rescue doesn't work in "conditions" or that paddle float doesn't work in "conditions." Maybe not in all conditions, but I've practiced the paddle float rescue in wind-driven chop to 6 foot and surf to 3 to 4 foot and I've seen the cowboy down in some tough conditions. Check out Gordon Brown's second video: http://www.seakayakwithgordonbrown.com/Main.html I have no doubt that the paddle float rescue would work in larger waves.

And there's always reenter and roll with a paddle float. Then you can keep the paddle float on afterward for stability and you can even paddle with it on.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just pointing out my experience with the rescues.
