When it comes to colouring your SOF boat, you have 4 options:
1. Do nothing - directly coat the raw, white nylon with whatever waterproofing material you are using. This is the easy choice, but from the aesthetic point of view, not a good one. The snow-white nylon turns into an yellowish-looking shade that looks plain ugly (at least to me). What's worse, all the places where the skin comes into contact with frame, as well as any other, even small imperfection on the skin produces ugly dark, highly visible stains. Again, not good.

2. Dye the fabric. This method actually works reliably, despite the recent comments by the Corey Freeman of skinboats. It appears that a small group of people may have problems, but they were possibly due to incorrect application (ex coating the nylon before the skin+dye are completely dry). Choose the colour carefully, make sure you do the "wet" test that will give you the idea what it will look like when finished. Darker colours work better because the light colours sometimes produce visible smudges on the skin. However, it it varies from colour to colour, and if the first application of dye leaves the smudges, you can add another that will eliminate them but leave you with a darker shade of the colour. All in all, I'd say this is the best method.

3. Add tint to the corey goop, or other sealant you are using. It works similar to dyeing the boat as described in 2. but is harder to achieve the uniform colour all over the boat - you need to meticulously measure the proportion of tint to goop.

4. Use oil-based paint to coat the skin. This will give you whatever colour you want. However, keep in mind that pain is not a match for nylon (it works fine on polyester)

Also, buy the Corey Goop, tint and dye from skinboats.org, but the fabric from George Dyson. Some of fabric skinboats sells is, ahem, "experimental" in nature. George Dyson sells good stuff, for good price, and is easy to do business with.
